Skull Foramina 


The ophthalmic branch (V1) of CN V which traverses the skull through the superior orbital fissure.

The maxillary division (V2) of CN V traverses the foramen rotundum and supplies sensation to the upper lip, upper teeth, nasal mucosa, and lower eyelid. The mandibular division (V3) of CN V traverses the foramen ovale and provides sensation to the cheek, the external auditory meatus, the tympanic membrane, the lower teeth and gums, the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, the lower lip, and the chin. The meningeal branch of the mandibular nerve as well as the middle meningeal artery and vein traverse the foramen spinosum. The vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VII/VIII) traverses the internal acoustic meatus.
