Queston #8875Note

brainstem auditory evoked potentials (baep)

-Wave I: electrical signal of cranial nerve VIII after a patient is given an auditory stimulus.

-Waves II-V: various brainstem regions that are part of the auditory sensory pathway.

-Bilateral absence of all waves greater than wave I on BAEPs after a hypoxic-ischemic injury suggests a poor neurological outcome and brain death.

-If no wave I is captured on the recording, no conclusions can be made regarding the auditory pathway.

Prolonged III-V interpeak latency or decreased wave V amplitude = multiple sclerosis.

Prolonged I-III interpeak latency= Acoustic neuromas
