Alexia without agraphia: injury to the splenium interrupts the connection between the right visual cortex and the left angular gyrus, which is the center for reading. 

Because the angular gyrus itself is not affected, writing remains intact. 

An ischemic stroke secondary to left posterior cerebral artery occlusion can present with alexia without agraphia.
