Queston #8954Note

Hyperekplexia is a non-epileptic paroxysm seen in the newborn period that is characterized by an exaggerated startle response to environmental stimuli, such as loud sounds, tapping on the nose/face, etc. Approximately a third of familial cases are related to a glycine receptor alpha-1 subunit gene mutation.
